The Walking Dead season 9 spoilers: Rick Grimes to lead the Saviors? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

The Walking Dead season nine’s premiere episode was haunted by Rick Grimes’ (played by Andre Lincoln) imminent exit.

There were deaths, scares and tensions are reaching breaking point between the various communities which have been forged into Rick’s utopian society.

There’s also the fact that Rick’s decision at the end of season eight to keep Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) looks like it’s only making tensions even worse between him, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan).

Daryl and Maggie both feel that Negan should have been killed for his crimes and Daryl has now been put in charge of the Sanctuary, which isn’t proving to be a good fit.

It also seems as though the Saviors community is the one which will spoil Rick’s community and there might only be one way to quash the oncoming storm before it happens.

There’s been a lot of chatter about how Rick will leave the show, and after watching the very first episode of season nine, one possibility which is emerging is Rick will be forced to lead the Saviors community away from the main group to prevent another ferocious battle.

The premiere episode suggested that Negan still has his followers within the camp, and if Rick still doesn’t want to kill him, they’ll only be one way to stop those wrongdoers from creating havoc.

Rick could be forced to lead them to another location, away from the main group, and this would lead to the character’s exit from the main show.

This would be in keeping with Rick’s nature, who’s never been one to shy away from the ramifications of his decisions.

He was the one to made the call not to kill Negan, and he will want to be the one who bears the consequences of his actions.

With AMC confirming that they’re working on a spin-off series, it could also give them a basis upon which to build said show.

This might be a disappointing exit for some and may seem as being slightly anti-climatic, yet it would make sense for the show’s overall narrative.

Rick is still an essential part of the comic-book series upon which the show is based.

Andrew has also hinted that his character could return somewhere down the line.

This open-ended exit would give the writers a lot of room to bring Rick back in the future.

It would also give Andrew the time he needs to spend with his family, which was one of the main reason for him leaving the show.

However, Andrew will be coming back to work on The Walking Dead season ten, just not as an actor.

Andrew will be returning to direct an episode of The Walking Dead, which means the cast and crew definitely haven’t seen the last of him yet.

It’s been rumoured that Rick’s exit will happen in episode four of this new season, which means that fans won’t have long to wait before everything is revealed.

The Walking Dead season nine continues Sunday on AMC and Monday at 9pm on FOX in the UK. Seasons 1-8 are available to stream on NOW TV.
