Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Joe Sugg’s opening routine stuns judges | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Joe Sugg started off his time on Strictly Come Dancing with an opening routine that surprised absolutely everybody.

Joe and his partner, Dianne, came out on stage and performed the Jive to A-Ha’s classic 80s hit, Take on Me.

The 27-year-old YouTuber wasn’t one of the favourites before the show started, but he certainly will be after his debut performance.

Both the judges and the Strictly viewers were stunned by the performance and fans took to Twitter to reveal their surprise.

One viewer tweeted: “A non-dancer just became a dancer. Best first dance Jive I’ve seen on Strictly, and I have been watching it since 2004. Amazing. You are being taught well Joe.”

Another one wrote: “Okay wasn’t expecting that – Joe Sugg was so good on Strictly,” and: “I have Googled Joe Sugg. I still don’t know what he does. Good Jive.”

“Okay, wasn’t expecting that. Joe Sugg was so good on Strictly,” wrote another viewer.

Joe took to the dance floor wearing some somewhat unconventional footwear which viewers seemed to really appreciate.

“Joe Sugg wearing sparkly Converse on Strictly is such a mood,” said on Strictly fan on Twitter.

After Joe and Dianne had finished their dance, presenter Tess Daily said: “There’s a good chance that’s already trending.”

Fans on Twitter weren’t the only ones surprised by Joe’s performance. The judges were blown away by his incredible debut dance which they really weren’t expecting to be.

“I had no idea you could come out and do something like that. I wasn’t expecting it at all,“ said Bruno Tonioli.

Craig Revel Horwood added: “I saw you dance momentarily on the launch show two weeks ago and I did not have high hopes for you.

“But that has changed everything,” he finished.

It seems as though Joe and Dianne have been working really hard on making sure they nailed their first routine, which they did.

Meanwhile, comedian Seann Walsh didn’t quite receive the praise that Joe did after his first dance.

Seann and his pro dancing partner, Katya Jones, finished and stood in front of the judges ready to get some feedback for their performance, but they weren’t expecting to hear what Shirley Ballas told them.

Sean was shocked by Shirley’s scathing attack on the comedian’s appearance.

Shirley told the Strictly hopeful, “tidy yourself up,” referring to his long and curly hair.

Strictly Come Dancing returns next Saturday at 6:30 on BBC One.
